This is my sweet and adorable little boy Landon. He changed
my world the minute he was born on 12/10/2009. He came into this world with a
story to tell and lives to touch. He's over come so much in the 3 years he has
joined this world and I know he has so many more goals to reach. As a teacher I
of course always worried about Landon hitting milestones and his progress and
growth. At around 18 months I started to worry that Landon's lack of speaking
was a cause of concern. I would ask our Speech Path questions at school about
ways to encourage Landon to talk. Landon also became a very picky eater and
refused to try new foods. It was so weird because just 6 months ago this was
our son who was eating pizza, pasta and cheese. At around 18 months Landon
limited his eating to: goldfish, kix, cheerios, muffins, pancakes, fruit strips
and french fries. I of course was concerned so at 22 months I spoke to our
doctor about getting Landon evaluated for a Speech Delay. Landon was evaluated
and diagnosed with a Speech Disturbance. He started Speech Therapy once a week
for an hour. Therapy seemed to be working he was starting to use word(s) to
communicate with us and he had finally acknowledged my husband and I as Ma and
Da. Of course we were thrilled! As time progressed I grew more concern with
some of Landon's behaviors and slow Speech Progress at times. By 2 1/2 I
re-evaluated the situation, looked into Early Intervention, and again talked to
our doctor about my concerns. All in all by October of this year our little guy
was officially diagnosed with Autism and Sensory Integration Disorder. We have
done everything under the sun for our little guy. He fills our calendar with
therapies: Speech, OT, DT and ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis). He is making
great progress and we could not be more proud of the small goals he achieves
daily!
