More Fish Please

Landon's go to snack and comfort food is Goldfish or as he likes to say "FEEESSHH!" Every time after therapy his first request is FEEESSSHHH to satisfy his oral sensory need. There are days when mama forgets the fish and you can guarantee a major meltdown in return! Today I made sure I had plenty of fish since we would have a new therapist at OT. Landon had many struggles with his past OT Ms. Deb and for some reason would have meltdown after meltdown with her. It was mommy torture to sit in the waiting room and hear him sob for an entire hour of therapy. We had tried many different ways to get him to cooperate but nothing seem to have worked. One day Ms. Deb introduced Landon to Ms. Amanda the new OT. It was love at first sight as some would say. He seem to take to her so I made the suggestion that maybe Ms. Amanda take on Landon's OT services. Today when we arrived at OT Ms. Amanda came out to greet Landon with her schedule and picture cues to show him what they would do today. Of course his favorite "Crying All Done" picture card was there and he knew that he could no longer be upset. He went through the doors with Ms. Amanda and I never heard a cry or meltdown the entire hour. SUCCESS!!!!! I was so happy with this small change and could not have been more proud of him today. So we left with one happy boy in tow. On the way home Landon indeed requested "FEEESSHH," and I of course happily obliged. As were driving I heard that 3 words I have waited to hear so long: "More Fish Please!" I could not believe it! We have worked on this for soooo long. I have of course told him how proud I was and that was such a big boy thing to do. He of course continued to stare out the window, eat his fish and ignore me. I drove home with a smile on my face!
