Today Ben and I attended the first of many IEP meetings for Landon. You could say that we were both nervous and excited to hear what was in store for our little guy. Luckily the staff was able to use all of Landon's recent evaluations to help write the initial IEP. Our biggest concern was type of classroom Landon would enter into. We strongly believed that Landon would benefit and be successful in a blended classroom. We feared a classroom that was not blended would inhibit Landon's growth and progress in speech and socialization. We were thrilled to hear that the team also felt the same way. During the hour and 20 minute meeting we learned all of Landon's goals, objectives, and placement. We are thrilled to announce that Landon will start Pre-School on Monday, January 7, 2013. Ben and I were able to meet his teacher and see his classroom before we left today. I am hoping to take Landon back there myself to introduce him to his teacher's, classroom and school setting. I will also be taking pictures to create a social story so that we have a new bed time story for the next 3 weeks. We used a social story with real pictures of Landon's last pre-school, classroom and teachers to help him with the new transition back in September.
As excited as I am for Landon to embark on this new journey I am also a little sad. My buddy will be in school 4 days a week from 9:00-11:30 and every other Friday. Sad to say we have had this routine for the past few months and I will miss some of the craziness. I do know how important this is for Landon and I am happy and excited for him. I look forward to continue watching him grow and become a Little Man!
