Shhh..Be Quiet!

For the past month we have been working on being quiet. Landon has a tendency to yell, shout and be loud throughout the day, especially when his baby sister is sleeping.  I recently asked his ABA Therapist for some suggestions on how to teach Landon about the act of lowering his voice and being quiet. She informed me that children with Autism have trouble learning this concept and positive praise and reinforcement will be the best way to teach Landon the act of quieting down. I had tried many other ways to teach Landon the word "shhh!" I tried using his picture cards showing, showing him how I speak quietly and just by asking him. None of those seem to be working on him.

We will now praise him when he uses a quiet voice in the correct manner; we will also not acknowledge his request or answer him if he uses a outside or yelling voice. I have a feeling this will take some time but I am hoping with consistency and positive reinforcement we can teach Landon the art of "Quiet Time," and "Inside Voice!"
