Landon is a HUGE fan of swimming and all things that have to
do with water. He also has NO fear when it comes to water or pools. We are
traveling to Florida in a few weeks and Ben and I felt it was important to
teach Landon how to swim and the importance of water safety. The TriCounty
Recreation has semi-private swim lessons in Lockport. Last Saturday was
Landon's first official class. He was SO excited when we walked into the
swimming pool area he could not wait to go in. He was eager to go in and I was
not sure how he would do once he realized I was not going in with him. He took
his teachers hand and followed her to the edge of the pool. They jumped in and
then I heard his cry. He had finally realized mommy was NOT going in with him.
This started the meltdown and Landon sitting on the bench watching from the
sidelines. I went over and explained to him that it was ok, I was not leaving
him but I could not go in the pool with him. His teachers were great and tried
many attempts to get him to come back in. They never pushed or forced him but
they did intrigue him to come closer to the pool by playing catch!
He would get closer to the water as time went on and he was even putting himself in the water by the end of class.
I kept my eye and hand on him at all times just in case he got brave enough to jump in before his teacher was there to catch him. He left happy and tearless so we will be taking him back next week. It is important that Landon continue to try new things even if he does not approve or like of them at first.
