Quinn attempting to eat a mum, this only lasted 10 seconds! |
Cooked carrots! More fun to play in then to eat! |
My baby girl, following in the foot-steps of her big brother
when it comes to poor eating skills. Landon had trouble with the pincer grasp
and was unable to self feed puffs until 10 months. Once he got it he was happy
to feed himself. Quinn has mastered the pincer grasp at 7 months but has ZERO
desire to self feed. She has no interest in feeding herself puffs or cooked
carrots. She will pick the food up and play with it. I show her that food goes
in her mouth and her initial reaction is to GAG! Oh boy here we go again.
Landon used to gag on many textures of baby food that did not agree with him
his oral sensory. I am finding the same pattern with Quinn. If her rice cereal
is not smooth enough she will make herself gag and throw up.
As the pro-active mother I am I have already called EI and
ask them to come and evaluate Quinn. I spoke to her doctor to express my
concerns and she agreed that an EI evaluation would be great. Not only does
Quinn not self feed but she refuses’ to drink from ANY form of a sippy cup. She
is a bottle only kid. She rarely explores with her mouth and not too many toys
enter in for oral exploring. I am a bit concerned that part of the problem is
the motor and muscle development in her shoulders and arms.
EI is set to come next week and the same team that evaluated
and worked with Landon will be coming back to evaluate Quinn. The only
difference will be they are bringing a Physical Therapist and Nutritionist to
help with feeding concerns and allergy issues.
