After yesterday's rollercoaster experience for Ben, Quinn, and I we are grateful to have some positive news! Quinn's samples and Sweat Test all came back normal! YAHOO! We are lucky to have jumped through these hoops to have received some uplifting news!
Here is a picture of our smiley, happy, baby girl yesterday during her Sweat Test at Lurie's:
Today Quinn and I had
an appointment with a Speech Pathologist on the Feeding Team at CDH. This was
my second trip to this hospital and let me tell you I am NOT a fan of it. The
staff is nice but man I can NEVER find a place to park or find where I am
going. I was flustered by the time I arrived! Our Speech Pathologist was
wonderful, Quinn enjoyed her! At the end of the evaluation she had decided that
Quinn had some Sensory Issues (just like her big bro) and some mild developmental
delays. She would have guessed that Quinn was showing signs of a 9 month old.
Her recommendation was weekly Speech and Occupational Therapy sessions to help
with the Sensory Issues as well as Feeding Therapy. Quinn does not use her
tongue to push food to the side of her mouth in order to chew. In Quinn's mind
she takes a bite and swallows/pushes objects straight back. This is a delayed
process with her mouth and can cause gagging and choking during her few
textured food experiences.
With her recommendation
I have already contacted EI and set-up to have her therapies increased to once
a week. Making appointments and providing therapy for my children is my new
full time job! I am ready and willing to help in any way I can!
We will also continue
to work with her nutritionist and GI doctor to talk about food and milk
intolerances as she continues develop eating more table foods!
We are so glad for
the good news and are looking forward to working with our baby girl to help her
overcome her mild developmental delays!
GO QUINN!
