Haircut Time...NO!

One of Landon's major sensitive areas is his head. He hates when a shirt is too tight and does not go over his head fast enough. He will freak out if he gets stuck. Haircuts can be very traumatic for Landon and those who have the opportunity to cut his hair. For a good year we attempted having a stylist cut his hair as he would scream while we held him down. After a few traumatic experiences we decided to invest in our own set of clippers and buzz cut his hair at home. I thought maybe this would be less traumatic for him. No such luck! He freaks out the minute he sees me set up. He will scream the entire time, even with a pacifier in his mouth and his favorite television show blaring in the background. Today's experience was not different just a little more intense in the meltdown. He saw me set up the chair, get the pacifier and he took off running. I attempted to cut his hair by myself. I usually have Ben here for backup but thought I could handle it myself. He is getting bigger and stronger and harder to hold down while I buzz his hair away. As I cut his hair I tell him that he is doing a "great job" and "nice sitting!" Those words mean nothing to Landon has the clippers buzz away and freak him out. I was able to get most of his head evenly cut before he completely melted down and I could no longer continue my barber shop experience. I was able to bring him upstairs to quickly rinse him off with the shower (which also FREAKS him out) before putting him down for a nap.

This experience breaks my heart because I have no idea what it does to him. These are the times I wish he could tell me how this whole experience makes him feel. I unfortunately need to finish the job later when Ben gets home but I am allowing him time to desensitize before his next traumatic experience.
